Memphis Depay gives the Brazilian Cup to Corinthians

The Dutch Memphis Depay31 years old, scored this Sunday the goal of the 2-1 victory of the Corinthians in front of Vasco da Gama in the final of the Brazil Cupa title that qualifies the São Paulo team to the 2026 Copa Libertadores.

Yuri Alberto opened the scoring in the 18th minute and assisted Memphis to score the second and final goal, in a collective play in the 63rd minute.

Nuno Moreira, with a header, scored the goal for Vasco da Gama, in the second leg of the final, played at the Maracaná stadium in Rio de Janeiro, after the 0-0 first leg, played last Wednesday in São Paulo.

The Rio team boxed Corinhtians in the final stretch of the game, but failed to counter Memphis’ goal, which was decisive.

For Corinthians, this marks its fourth Cup title and first since 2009, and is the team’s second title of the season, after the Paulista Championship.

In the Brazilian league, the team has remained in the lower middle zone of the standings all season and finished in thirteenth position, with 47 points, four above relegation.

The Cup title, the second most important in Brazil, also represents an economic injection, due to the competition prize, which is around 100 million reais (about 18 million dollars) and the financial return that the ticket for the Libertadores represents.
