Physical abuse is the one that most affects women in Santa Cruz

Between 2015 and 2020, 83,158 complaints of violence against women were received in Santa Cruz, physical abuse being the most frequent, According to a report by the Cruceño Institute of Statistics (ICE), with data from the Force to Fight Violence (Felcv).

According to the report, 80% of the complaints correspond to domestic violence, that is, 67,049 cases of abuse occurred within the family. The most frequent victims are women between 19 and 45 years old.of which the most affected are between 19 and 30 years old.

Of the cases of domestic violence, the most frequent type of abuse is physical with 63.7%, that is, 42,686 complaints were registered between 2015 and 2020. It is followed by psychological violence with 34% (22,824 cases), physical and psychological abuse withl 2.1% (1,420) and of another type 0.2% (119).

The data also shows that domestic violence has been on the rise. In 2015, 8,389 cases were registered; in 2016, 9,323; in 2017, 10,581; in 2018, 11,954; in 2019, 14,237 and in 2020 there was a slight decrease, with 12,565.
Juan Pablo Suárez, director of ICE, explained that the figures are referential, since not all of the department has sufficient access to complaints and not all victims of violence file complaints. They obtained complete records only from six municipalities: Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Montero, Yapacaní, Camiri, Cotoca and San Ignacio.

Suárez sees it necessary to have statistics on violence against women that allow us to know how we are as a department, which will help to propose policies effective public policies and a better use of economic resources.

Regarding the crimes dealt with, the statistics indicate that sexual abuse is the most frequent, with 4,401 cases, followed by statutory rape (2,396) and rape, which includes the crimes of rape of infants, boys, girls and adolescents, who sumado They reach 5,672 cases attended; sexual harassment (514) and femicide (108) are also counted.
