Javier Aquino has officially left Tigres, closing a significant 10-year chapter with the club. His farewell, however, has left him feeling disappointed about how it was communicated to him.
In a live social media broadcast, Aquino expressed his sadness about the situation, not due to leaving Tigres, but because of the handling of the decision. He regretted not being able to say goodbye in person to teammates and fans after his final game against Toluca.
Tigres acknowledged his contributions with a statement, thanking him for his dedication, and confirmed his place in the Ring of Legends at Estadio Universitario. The club also released a farewell video showing his achievements, including five Liga MX titles and other honors.
Aquino clarified that his departure was due to sporting reasons, noting that he was offered an unreasonable salary reduction despite his extensive playing time. He emphasized his commitment to the club and expressed disappointment with how his success was managed.
After the 2025 Apertura tournament, Aquino plans to take a break before deciding on his next steps. His contract will officially end on December 31.
