The partisan landscape in Mexico is dominated by Morena, with a membership of around 11.5 million members (9 million more than last year), according to the National Electoral Institute (INE) database.
Although these registers are dynamic – due to the increasing number of registrations and cancellations – Morena’s reach has a wide margin of difference with the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), previously dominant in this matter, which governed the country from the post-revolutionary era until the year 2000.

At the moment, the INE has not provided detailed reports on the causes of the variations that have occurred in recent months.
And although the stages of updating in each political force may be different, especially depending on the programs in the field, the distance between the leader and the rest is increasing.
The Morena leadership announced and launched, last January, a massive registration campaign, with the name “We are millions. Join Morena”, with the goal of enrolling 10 million throughout the country.
The results of each party’s strategies have been equally varied.
Thus, one of the entities where Morena has the fewest members – a situation related to the size of the entity and other political and social circumstances – is Baja California Sur, with 55,318 members, while the PRI registers 802 and the PAN 2,238.
The INE will review registers in the first half of next year, the same period in which it will determine whether to grant registration to new parties; The objective is not only to update, but to cross-reference data from one organization to another.
Public financing for political parties in Mexico is until now untouchable, because it is done based on a constitutional formula. Next year there will be a purse of 7,737 million pesos; There is an equal distribution of 30 percent of the available resource and the rest according to the votes obtained in the most recent federal election.
