Trump accused the Venezuelan Executive of using oil extracted from what he called “stolen oil fields” to finance criminal activities. In the publication he stated that these resources are destined for “terrorism, drug trafficking, human trafficking, murders and kidnappings.” Furthermore, he maintained that, for these and other reasons, the “Venezuelan regime has been designated as a foreign terrorist organization.”
“Therefore, today I am ordering a total and complete blockade of all sanctioned oil tankers entering or leaving Venezuela,” Trump wrote, using all caps to emphasize the scope of the decision.
In his message, the president also linked the measure with United States immigration policy. He stated that “the illegal and criminal immigrants” that the Maduro Government sent to the country during the Joe Biden administration “are being returned to Venezuela at an accelerated pace.”
