In the past two years, the National Shelter Network (RNR) has provided comprehensive and free care to more than 27 thousand women and children, of which 23 percent experienced physical violence, 25 percent psychological, 20 percent economic and 15 percent patrimonial, which shows that “comprehensive and sustained responses are urgently needed,” establishes a report from the group.

Likewise, it indicates that “violence against women directly affects the lives of their daughters and sons; childhoods not only witness violence: they experience it. Therefore, in external care centers, the support provided to girls, boys and adolescents increased by 78 percent in 2025 in relation to last year.

The most frequent forms of aggression against children were psychological and economic, with 29 percent each; physics, 16 percent; patrimonial, 18 percent, and sexual, 4 percent. In 84 percent of cases, the childhood aggressor is the same as the mother’s aggressor. Furthermore, 42 percent of daughters and sons of assaulted women, and who do not enter shelters, experience vicarious violence, a form of aggression that seeks to harm women through their daughters and sons, generally taking them from their mothers.

Regarding budget resources, Wendy Figueroa, director of the RNR, pointed out The Day that just last Friday (13 days before the end of the year), they began to flow to the approximately 10 shelters to which the second ministration of the year had not been delivered.

The balance establishes that the care in these spaces must be comprehensive and consider the entire family in their recovery and protection process, and adds that “to these violence is added another: institutional violence”, characterized by the “late delivery of the 2025 budget and the lack of clarity regarding 2026, which puts the operation of shelters and care centers at risk.”

The 76 shelters in the network operate every day of the year “with specialized processes that depend on continuous financing, so when resources are delayed, essential services such as accommodation, food, psychological care, emotional support, legal support, protection orders, emergency transfers and comprehensive security become precarious,” he warns, since in recent years the constant has been the late channeling of budgets.
