In this way, pollution on Mexico’s recreational beaches showed a significant reduction prior to the end-of-year holiday period and according to the results of the Third Monitoring 2025 of Sea Water Quality, 98% of the beaches monitored in the country are suitable for recreational use.
Monitoring was carried out on 289 beaches located in 76 tourist destinations in 17 coastal states, and the results are available for public consultation through the “Playas Mx” mobile application, with the aim of providing the population with timely information, especially during the winter vacation period.
During the pre-holiday stage, the Areas for Protection against Health Risks (APCRS), in coordination with the National Network of Public Health Laboratories (RNLSP), carried out 2,233 analyzes of water samples taken on the most popular beaches of the main tourist destinations in the country.
The health authorities detailed that the six beaches classified as unsuitable exceeded the limit of 200 enterococci per 100 milliliters of water, a criterion established by the World Health Organization (WHO).
Given this, Cofepris and the APCRS work together with the Beach Committees to implement immediate sanitation actions that allow reestablishing optimal health conditions and preventing health risks for national and international tourists.
