Santo Domingo. – The first lady of the Republic, Raquel Arbaje, reported that she knows and is following up on the Kelly Orchid casea 25-year-old young woman who requires a high-cost medication to treat advanced breast cancer.
“We are trying to communicate with Orquidea, she does not pick up the phone. We know her case, and we are in contact with Alto Costo,” Arbaje declared through a comment on the Instagram publication of the newspaper El Día, which publicizes Kelly’s painful situation.
According to the first lady, the pembrolizumab medicationnecessary for Kelly to continue her treatment, will not be available in the country until February, so she asked the young woman to remain attentive to any official communication.
Orquidea Kelly was diagnosed in April 2023 with triple negative infiltrating ductal carcinomaan aggressive type of breast cancer. After the diagnosis, a treatment consisting of 16 sessions of intravenous chemotherapywithout the tumor responding favorably. Subsequently, she was subjected to a radical bilateral mastectomyfollowed by 30 radiotherapy sessions and six months of oral chemotherapy.
However, despite strictly complying with the indicated treatment, he noticed the appearance of new nodules, which forced the specialists to perform a biopsy in October of this year and the results of which confirmed the cancer recurrence.
Through an audiovisual broadcast on social networks, Kelly reported that the cancer progression has been rapid and that the pain and physical limitations have prevented him from continuing to work, seriously affecting his quality of life and that of his family.
For this reason, the young appealed to the sensitivity of the authorities and those responsible for the health system so that access to medicine is guaranteed, not only for her, but also for other patients in similar conditions.
