With this production, Sheinbaum ensures that Mexico will achieve energy and sustainable sovereignty.
During the inauguration in Querétaro, the president thanked the collaboration of the state governor Mauricio Kuri, of the opposition PAN party.
“We coordinate very well with Mauricio even though we come from different political parties,” he declared.
Sheinbaum said she was proud of the parastatal CFE because she worked there years ago; He also carried out research for the agency on energy planning, and above all, he said, because it is a public company.
He explained that with the new combined cycle plants his government prioritizes public generation of electrical energy. This complies with the 2024 constitutional reform that gives preference to the CFE to produce 54% of the country’s electricity, and the private sector 46%, without considering that the parastatal is a monopoly.
“Why is it important to have a strong public company in the energy system? For energy sovereignty,” he mentioned.
Also, because this allows the State to have the capacity to respond to natural disasters that affect the electricity supply, Sheinbaum added.
The Querétaro Combined Cycle Power Plant was inaugurated this Saturday, although its construction was announced since 2019, during the government of former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
Six years later, the project was completed, which was delayed due to the covid-19 pandemic.
