Santo Domingo.- The president of the Republic, Luis Abinaderrated as “a betrayal” the corruption scandal detected in the National Health Insurance (Senasa) and assured that every cent of the stolen resources will be recovered by the Dominican State.
During a brief exchange with journalists at a Christmas meetingthe president expressed that the situation affected him personally, stating that he did not expect a betrayal of that magnitude within a key institution of his management.
Abinader clarified that the irregularities They did not affect Senasa members, but directly to the State, since the system is supported by the monthly contributions of the insured themselves.
The head of state described the case as one of the most difficult situations faced by his government, even going so far as to compare it with the complex situation in Haiti, due to institutional impact.

However, he reported that in recent months Senasa has been recovering, with positive results.
Abinader attributed other alleged corruption scandals reported recently to an opposition campaign.
Cobra Case
Last week, the Permanent Attention Office of the National District imposed 18 months of preventive detention against Santiago Hazim and six other people, accused of committing administrative irregularities during the previous Senasa administration.

The judge also accepted the request of the Public Ministry to declare the process a complex case, given the magnitude of the accusations and the number of those involved.
Meanwhile, three defendants who collaborated with the investigation were sentenced to house arrest, prevented from leaving the country and paid a financial guarantee of one million pesos.
