The well-known Cuban actor Raúl Enríquez Zerquera, “an essential figure on Cuban television for more than four decades,” died in Havana at the age of 69, a statement from the Cubavisión channel reported this Saturday, which deeply regretted his departure.
Theater, film and television actor, Enríquez Zerquera began in the amateur movement and later joined the FAR Artistic Ensemble, with which he participated in various theatrical missions in Africa, aimed at the Cuban troops deployed on that continent.
Multi-awarded for his stage work, he was founder of the Aries Theater Company, with a wide repertoire of Cuban works and recognized community work in the municipality of 10 de Octubre.
“Since 1980, Raúl Enríquez Zerquera was a true pillar of the small screen. His career spanned more than 30 years of sustained work, in which he worked not only as an actor, but also as a writer and theater director, providing a comprehensive and rigorous look at the artistic fact,” added the Cubavisión statement.
The Cuban public remembers him for his participation in numerous soap operas, as well as for his presence in one of the most followed spaces on national television, After the trailwhere he left solid and memorable performances, especially in hampesque characters.
His most recent work is part of the soap opera water eyepremiering next week, in which he assumed a character of dramatic weight that will remain a testament to his talent and professional dedication, the statement said.
