Santo Domingo.– The National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant) reported that since the night of Saturday the 20th until the early hours of Sunday the 21st will be carried out temporary closures in the kilometer 9 of the Duarte Highway, in sense East–Westdue to the work of lifting of a pedestrian bridge on that important access road to Greater Santo Domingo.
According to the Intrant, the closures will be executed specifically in the elevated located at the intersection of the Duarte Highway and John F. Kennedy Avenueas part of the installation work of the bridge structure, so drivers are recommended plan your trips in advance and follow the instructions of the traffic personnel stationed in the area.
The authorities indicated that the work will be carried out on saturday 20during the hours of 10:00 at night to 4:00 in the morningperiod during which vehicular passage through the affected section will be limited.
Recommended alternate routes
To facilitate circulation during the execution of the work, the Intrant arranged a series of alternate routesduly signposted, which may be used by drivers traveling in an East-West direction:
- John F. Kennedy Avenueusing the sections that will remain enabled
- Avenue of the Heroes
- Gregorio Luperón Avenue
- Parallel roads of the Duarte Highwayduly marked by the authorities
These routes will allow traffic to be diverted and reduce congestion while infrastructure work is carried out.
Lane closure by the MOPC
In a complementary way, the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC) reported that as of Saturday, December 20, from 7:00 p.m.until the Sunday the 21st at 7:00 in the morningthey will be closed the central and local lanes of kilometer 9 of the Duarte Highway.
According to the MOPC, this closure responds to the need to hoist fundamental structural elements to continue the construction of the new pedestrian bridge, a work conceived to improve road safety and mobility of both pedestrians and drivers in one of the points of greatest vehicular flow in Greater Santo Domingo.
The authorities reiterated the call to citizens to respect the signscomply with the instructions of the personnel on the road and use the recommended alternative routes to avoid delays and guarantee safety during the execution of the work.
