“There will be no congress because more than material resources, the PCC lacks credibility”
PUERTO PADRE, Cuba – Nostalgic, perhaps some of the 3,136 chosen remembered it from Miami, New York, Oslo or Madrid; Others, those who are already closely following in the footsteps of those who died, perhaps ruminated on that limelight past from their collapsing homes anywhere in Cuba. It happened 50 years ago, exactly on a day like today, when between December 17 and 22, 1975, at the Karl Marx Theater in Havana, the First Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) met.
The opening speech of that conclave was given by the then division commander Raúl Castro Ruz, and was a recurring theme in the magazine Olive Green and the radio program Political Informationmandatory listening for all members, whether soldier or commander, of all units of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (FAR) and of the Ministry of the Interior (MININT); I remember that I had just turned 19 and we were training in a pre-mountain area in the Sierra Maestra, when Pitute Arteaga, an old communist and guerrilla who had been one of the 3,136 delegates, arrived at our bivouac, who, acting as a traveling political commissar, brought with him to show us an album of photographs given to each of the participants of that First Congress of the PCC, which, due to its sumptuousness, must have cost public treasury a fortune.
Now there is no money in Cuba for conferences. And even less to review agreements that have neither been fulfilled up to the present nor will be fulfilled in the future, such as the flagrant breach of the social contract, but we will discuss that in the next article. But it burns, yes, it burns the superstructure of the PCC, burning its already worm-eaten wood, a circumstance of force majeure, more significant even than the power of money, which brought the leader to the front of the so-called “Cuban revolution,” the nonagenarian. Raul Castro Ruzarmy general and the only one with full real command in Cuba, to postpone the next one to be held in April 2026 until “it allows us to unite the forces, improve the situation of the nation,” and create “conditions for the construction of socialism” and the “communist society.”
Mondo and lirondo, what did Raúl Castro mean with that unrealizable nonsense known in Cuba? There is no money, it is known; and public and notorious is that there is also no electricity, transportation, accommodation, or food for so many people talking and talking and spending office and toilet paper at Liborio’s expense, because already, the public treasury is embezzled.
Well let’s say it in your own words. Raúl Castro said of “uniting the forces”, spoke of “improving the situation of the nation” and creating “conditions for the construction of socialism”; and, a futurist who, already over ninety years old but in his twenties, began to pursue that goal, continued plowing in the sea, the same sea through which the Cubans fled, when he reiterated what had been hammered into my head since I was very young, commissioners like Pitute, let’s say convinced yes, but mistaken, even if they died in the mistake, of making Cuba a “communist society”, something I was able to unnail in time, as so many others did and continue along that path thousands, millions around the world.
In simpler terms: worse than without money, without human capital is the Communist Party of Cuba, and so much so that they hide even the official figures of how many militants make up the PCC. And Raúl Castro knows it, for that he dedicates dozens of officers from operational bodies of the FAR and the MININT, and that study and analysis of the operational situation, not of the enemy, but of his own forces, and when he said of “cohering the forces”, rather than increasing the number of militants, he was clearly referring to conglomerating human resources that, not yet involved in corrupt acts, are indecisive, moral and potentially influenced by the “enemy”, that is, the society of consumption that is winning the battle against the “socialist society”.
There will be no PCC congress in April 2026, but let’s not fool ourselves. There will be no congress because more than material resources, the PCC lacks credibility and that lack of faith, rather than subtracting from its ranks, subtracts from the entire nation, but “improving the situation of the nation” as Raúl Castro said, is no longer resolved by normalizing electrical servicerevalue the Cuban peso or supply ration card stores, it is necessary Freedom, Democracy, for the inept to get out of the game. And to put it in a sporting manner, at this stage of the game and PCC losing by a landslide, their supporters would be equally interested in a goal or a penalty.
