He Jorge Chavez International Airportoperated by Lima Airport Partners (LAP), continues to consolidate itself as one of the main air hubs in the region, by maintaining an active network that currently connects with 67 national and international destinations, through 24 airlines.
In a context of constant adjustment of global air supply, airlines from North and South America have announced in recent weeks new operations and reopenings of routes from Lima, as part of their commercial and operational evaluations. Among the most recent announcements are the resumption of Delta Air Lines flights between Lima and Salt Lake City, the reopening of direct Air Canada routes to Toronto and Montreal, as well as the start of operations of the Argentine airline Flybondi with flights to Puerto Iguazú.
LAP explained that the development and sustainability of air routes respond to multiple variables specific to the airline sector, such as market demand, fleet allocation, schedule availability and the operational efficiency of airports. In this framework, the operator of the Jorge Chávez reaffirmed its role in guaranteeing a modern infrastructure and efficient processes that accompany the dynamics of the air market.
“The development of air connectivity depends on multiple factors. Our commitment is to ensure efficient operation that allows airlines to evaluate and develop routes in a sustainable manner,” said Norbert Onkelbach, central commercial manager of Lima Airport. Likewise, he reported that, after the start-up of the new airport, LAP has been coordinating with PromPerú meetings and presentations with airlines from Europe, the Middle East and Asia, aimed at promoting new international connections from Lima.
The recent additions are based on an infrastructure designed for efficient passenger flow management, which includes specialized areas for international connections and automated processes with state-of-the-art technology. At the end of this year, the Jorge Chávez Airport projects to exceed 25 million passengers, consolidating its sustained growth.
With the aim of promoting this expansion, LAP recently launched a Commercial Incentive Policy, aimed at both airlines that already operate in the country and those interested in starting operations in Lima. This program is applied transversally to all current and potential air operators.
Finally, the concessionaire specified that the adjustments or cancellations of routes announced by some airlines respond to their own commercial decisions and that the Transfer TUUA, applied to passengers on international connections since December 7, does not constitute in itself a determining factor for the viability of a route. LAP indicated that the collection process has been carried out without setbacks through alternative mechanisms, and reaffirmed its commitment to continue facilitating the necessary operating conditions to strengthen the country’s air connectivity.
