Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado affirmed that Nicolás Maduro “declared a war against democracy and against Venezuelans” and maintained that US President Donald Trump is “putting an end to it.”
The statements were offered during an interview on the radio program of American presenter Sean Hannity.
Machado, recognized with the Nobel Peace Prize, assured that the Chavista regime has not only attacked Venezuelans, but also has directly confronted Western democracies.
“They declared a war against the Venezuelan people and have declared a war against Western democracies. Now President Trump is finally ending this war. “It’s about saving lives,” he stated.
The opposition leader stressed that The Venezuelan crisis goes beyond a humanitarian emergency and it must be understood as a matter of national security for the hemisphere.
He also qualified Venezuela as a “satellite of Tehran” located a few hours from US territory, and warned about the presence and operation of foreign actors under the protection of the Maduro regime.
Machado pointed out that in the country Iranians, Russians, members of Hezbollah and drug trafficking cartels act freely, which, in his opinion, has turned Venezuela into a center of criminal networks with regional impact.
And he expressed confidence that this scenario can be reversed.
“Venezuela will no longer be a criminal center of narcoterrorist networks to become the energy center of our hemisphere and the strongest ally of the United States in the region,” he stated.
The leader also explained the reasons why she dedicated her Nobel Peace Prize to President Trump. “Because it is fair. Because it is the truth. What we have done is fight for the truth. “We are very grateful for what President Trump is doing,” he said.
