Minister Kátia Magalhães Arruda, of the Superior Labor Court (TST), determined this Friday (19) that postal workers keep 80% of their workforce active during the strike category, which started last Tuesday (16).
The injunction was granted at the request of the state-owned company against the unions that represent the employees. In case of non-compliance, a daily fine of R$100,000 per union will be imposed.
The strike is concentrated in nine states (Ceará, Paraíba, Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul).
In the minister’s understanding, the postal service is essential and cannot be completely paralyzed.and. Furthermore, Katia Arruda highlighted that the strike was triggered in the midst of the collective dispute being processed by the TST.
Employees demand the approval of a new collective work agreement, salary adjustment and solutions to the state-owned company’s financial crisis, which will need a loan of R$12 billion, guaranteed by the Treasuryto cover recent losses.
Correios informed that all branches are open and that the company has adopted contingency measures to minimize impacts on the population.
