“Christmas Mexico”, by the Amalia Hernández Ballet, begins its season in Chapultepec

The show “Christmas Mexico”, presented by the Amalia Hernández Folkloric Ballet, will begin its 18th season at the Chapultepec Castle, one of the most iconic spaces in the Mexico City.

With more than 100 dancers and musicians on stage, this seasonal classic will be presented from December 25 to January 11 on the Castle esplanade, with original costumes designed by Amalia Hernández herself, to celebrate Mexican holiday traditions.

Christmas in Mexico, presented again by Banamex, is inspired by the traditional festivities of our country, which are translated into three acts. The first recreates the moment of the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary, which continues with the montage of a living Nativity scene.

In the second act, the Three Wise Men offer gifts to the child God, represented with dances from different regions, as well as dances inspired by Mexican customs.

Finally, a typical Mexican posada is represented: the pilgrims, the singing of litanies, the light of the candles, which represent the guide of the walkers, and the traditional piñata, which symbolizes the seven deadly sins and the force that ends sin and temptations.

The Ballet Folklorico de México thanked the support of Salvador Rueda Smithers, director of the National Museum of History – Castillo de Chapultepec for being part of the history of ballet in one of the most important venues in Mexico.

Salvador López López, general director and grandson of Amalia Hernández, highlighted how important it is for the Folkloric Ballet to preserve and promote the traditions of Mexico: “The Folkloric Ballet of Mexico has the honor of being an ambassador of our traditions, of bringing the color, music and dance that characterizes us beyond our borders. We are deeply grateful to continue bringing the joy of Christmas to all Mexicans in this iconic venue, the Chapultepec Castle.”
