“It is a process carried out by both the General Prosecutor’s Office and the State Prosecutor’s Office and they are the ones who will report how the process is going,” he said.
The former Secretary of Security of Adán Augusto faces proceedings for criminal association, extortion and express kidnapping.
Requena was extradited to Mexico in September, after being detained in Paraguay.
The former official is being held in the Social Reintegration Center 1, “El Altiplano”, in the State of Mexico, where the major Mexican drug lords have been.
For decades and at intervals, Raquena was in charge of security tasks at the state level, but was promoted as secretary until the government of Morenista Adán Augusto López, who later left to join the Cabinet of Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
Raquena is credited with the exponential growth of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG) in Tabasco and its former criminal cell ”La Barredora”, before both groups entered into a violent dispute.
The growth of extortion, huachicoleo and drug trafficking is also blamed, which led some cities in the state to be placed among the first places of insecurity nationwide in 2024.
Their criminal ties were revealed in October 2022, when the group known as Guacamaya hacked and leaked millions of documents from the Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena).
Since then, it was learned that more than ten military reports placed Bermúdez Requena as a member of the CJNG in the state. However, López Hernández, who placed him in that position and by then was already Secretary of the Interior, minimized the revelations, which he considered “fantasies” and “allegedly leaks.”
On the contrary, at the end of 2024, Javier May, current governor of Tabasco and also of Morena, criticized his predecessors -López Hernández and Carlos Merino Campos, interim president- for keeping him in office.
It was not until February 14, 2024 that the arrest warrant was issued against Bermúdez Requena, revealed Miguel Ángel López Martínez, commander of the 30th Military Zone.
