The Venezuelan ruler wants to emulate María Corina Machado’s Nobel Prize.
MIAMI, United States. – The Venezuelan ruler, Nicolás Maduro, received in Caracas the “Architect of Peace” decoration, awarded by the Bolivarian Society of Venezuela during an event for the 195th anniversary of the death of Simón Bolívar, as reported by the Venezuelan presidential press itself.
The Italian agency ANSA accurate that the award was “created by the Chavista leader himself in an attempt to counteract the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to the Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado,” and placed the award “a few days after” the distinction in Oslo, which fueled comparisons in the political debate and on social networks.
The “self-awarding” ceremony took place last Wednesday. According to official sources, Maduro was invested with the stole that accredits him as “Honorary President of the Bolivarian Society of Venezuela.” In this context, a member of the organization, Mireya Leal Beaujont, designated him as “the architect of peace, for being the one who has built and preserved peace in the Nation and Latin America.”
At the event, Maduro stated: “Bolívar did not perish; his spirit remained vigilant, watching the destinies of his people. Today, his ideal radiates an inextinguishable light in its cradle: Bolivarian Venezuela.” He also criticized the military deployment and pressure of the United States in the Caribbean: “All the evil that imperialism tries to do to us is becoming a fighting force.”
The official Venezuelan version collected by the presidential press included another phrase attributed to Maduro in the same context: “Peace will be my port, peace will be my glory, peace will be everything I wish for, peace will always be our victory.”
On October 10, the Nobel Committee awarded the 2025 peace award to María Corina Machado “for his tireless work in promoting the democratic rights of the people of Venezuela and for his fight to achieve a just and peaceful transition from dictatorship to democracy.”
After learning that Machado had won the Nobel Peace Prize, the Venezuelan official newspaper SEE He described the verdict as “the most recent and cynical manipulation” of an award that, according to the outlet, serves “imperial policy.” From that moment on, Maduro also attacked the new Nobel Prize winner.
