MIAMI, United States. – The National Revolutionary Police (PNR) reported the recovery of 14 mattresses and other resources intended for families affected by Hurricane Melissa, after an operation carried out in the Niceto Pérez municipality, in the province of Guantánamo. The items, according to the official version, had been stolen from a warehouse of the Municipal Education Directorate and were intended to assist those affected by the meteorological event.

The information was disseminated through the Facebook profile Heroes in blue in Cubaof an informal nature and linked to the PNR. The publication also indicates that “school materials and other stolen objects were seized” and that “several individuals, allegedly linked to this reprehensible act, have been detained,” while “investigations continue.”

The official profile added that the mattresses “were a vital resource, acquired specifically to help families affected by the recent Hurricane Melissa,” and described the event as “an attack on the solidarity of our people,” occurring “at a time when the country and international solidarity are redoubling efforts to alleviate the effects of a natural disaster.”

The Cuban News Agency (ACN) he replied the case in an informative note, in which he confirmed that the recovered resources came from a warehouse of the Municipal Directorate of Education and reiterated that they were intended for those affected by Melissa.

Before this case, another robbery attempt had already emerged in the Santiago municipality of Palma Soriano.
