Mexico offered to mediate between the United States and Venezuela while the blockade of oil vessels ordered by US President Donald Trump increases tension between both nations. “We can always act as a negotiating point if the parties consider it so,” said Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum during her conference.
“The parties would have to propose us. And, if not, look for mediators to avoid any conflict in the region.”

“I told Trump that if he is interested in dialogue with Venezuela in an appropriate way, we can help,” Lula declared in a televised cabinet meeting. “I am concerned about Latin America. I am concerned about President Trump’s actions towards Latin America, the threats.” “I am thinking that before Christmas arrives, I may have to talk to President Trump again to find out how Brazil could contribute so that we have a diplomatic agreement and not a fratricidal war.”
The president announced that he had already spoken with his Venezuelan counterpart, Nicolás Maduro, to find out what cards had been put on the table in the dialogue with the US, and it was clear that the tensions could be resolved “without war.”
“What are the interests of others that people don’t know yet?” he asked. “It is possible to negotiate without war, so I am always worried about what is behind,” said Lula, after insisting that it should be explained what interests there are in generating a conflict in a region of peace like Latin America.
