“The amparos under review 540/2021 and 541/2021 that were voted yesterday in this Plenary Court have been returned to Minister Alfredo Gutiérrez Ortiz Mena who has promised, understanding the seriousness of the matter, to present for consideration by this Plenary Court a draft resolution as soon as possible, with which we will be able to resolve this delicate matter very soon,” Zaldívar announced during the public session.
The day before, by ten votes against and one in favor, the Court rejected the project of Minister Alberto Pérez Dayán and returned to Minister Gutiérrez to prepare a new one, which must be analyzed in a future session.
The bill proposed to grant protection to Gertz’s sister-in-law, Cuevas Morán, and her daughter Alejandra Cuevas against the arrest warrant and the formal prison order issued for the death of her brother Federico. However, they did not get to the bottom of the matter.
