Peru-United States bilateral relations
The arrival of the new ambassador occurs in a historical context, since in 2026 both countries will celebrate 200 years of diplomatic relations, formally established on May 2, 1826. This bicentennial marks two centuries of collaboration in areas of trade, security, democracy and development cooperation.
Foreign Minister Hugo de Zela and Secretary of State Marco Rubio agreed to implement coordinated actions against transnational organized crime and establish bilateral working groups on defense and security. In addition, they identified new investment opportunities in strategic sectors such as critical minerals, infrastructure and aerospace cooperation.
