The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, denounced this Tuesday the media campaign that was unleashed against Venezuela in the midst of the pandemic, two years after the application of the quarantine in the country.
“They planned how to harm the people. At every juncture they do not miss an opportunity », affirmed the president from the Miraflores Palace, where he heads a work day for the two years of the pandemic.
As a sign of the media campaign, he denounced some media articles such as the New York Times, DW and the BBC that warned about the alleged havoc that covid-19 would leave in the country.
“They said that Venezuela was going to become the world epicenter of the coronavirus and that was the intention of the bobolonga right, to contaminate Venezuela and then say that the military invasion was necessary as a humanitarian intervention,” he said.
He regretted that “so many hate campaigns are created that they cannot collect later”, especially from countries in the region such as Peru, Chile and Colombia, where “the violence with which some fanatics from those countries react” is evident.
He even said that the campaign of hate has recently become evident with the visit of the United States government delegation to the country.
“The victory of truth over lies, of our reality against its manipulation and hatred, a gigantic victory,” he added.
Sanctions and support
On the other hand, Maduro affirmed that in the two years of the pandemic, Venezuela has had the support of Russia, China, India, Turkey and Cuba with the shipment of medicines and treatments for Venezuelans despite the sanctions of the United States.
“Cruel coercive measures that US imperialism has applied against Venezuela and that we repudiate,” he added.
He referred to the recent remote conversation he had with the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Michelle Bachellet, to whom he mentioned the difficulties that Venezuela faces in importing medicines.
“But we have not stopped despite the criminal sanctions that have persecuted Venezuela, despite the medicines that Venezuelans need,” he added.
