Jorge Rodríguez: millions came out to express indignation against the lie

The president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, stated that millions of Venezuelans mobilized throughout the country to express their rejection of the recent threats by US President Donald Trump. The statements were offered during a conversation with the Bolivarian Societyheaded by President Nicolás Maduro.

Rodríguez reported that the National Assembly unanimously approved an agreement to repudiate what he described as “the atrocities expressed yesterday by Donald Trump,” a document that was formally delivered during the meeting to the head of state. “All the deputies of Parliament supported this agreement without a single exception,” he stressed.

“One of the darkest characters in American history”

In his speech, Rodríguez questioned the statements of the US president, who threatened a total naval blockade against Venezuela and stated that Venezuelan oil and resources belong to the United States.

“Trump is one of the darkest characters that North American history has recorded,” said Rodríguez, pointing out that his words constitute a direct attack against Venezuelan sovereignty and a provocation that seeks to destabilize the region.

The parliamentarian highlighted that the response of the Venezuelan people was immediate and massive. “Millions came out to express indignation at the lie, at the threat, at the attempted dispossession,” he stated.

A country mobilized in defense of its sovereignty

Rodríguez recalled that Trump’s threats occur in a context of growing hostilitywhich includes announcements of a naval blockade, attempts to appropriate natural resources and statements that Caracas has described as colonial.

During the conversation, he insisted that Venezuela faces a campaign of aggression that seeks to justify forceful actions. “They intend to intimidate a people that has memory, that has dignity and that does not kneel,” he said.

The president of Parliament highlighted that the popular mobilization demonstrates the cohesion of the country in the face of any attempt at intervention. “Here there is a conscious people, a people who know how to defend their truth,” he stated.

Trump’s threats

Rodríguez’s statements come a day after Donald Trump published messages on the Truth Social network announcing a total naval blockade against Venezuela and assuring that “all of Venezuela’s oil is property of the United States”, statements that generated immediate rejection in Caracas and in various sectors of the international community.

The Venezuelan Government has denounced that these threats are part of an escalation that includes military actions in the Caribbean and episodes of piracy against vessels that were legally transporting Venezuelan oil.
