The Minister of Tourism, Celso Sabino (no party), confirmed, on the afternoon of this Wednesday (17), that he will leave the government due to the União Brasil party having requested the vacancy in the department. According to Sabino, he should be replaced by Gustavo Feliciano.
“I imagine that the party must have its reasons for taking this decision to move away from the government and it must also have its reasons for now seeking to get closer to the government.”
Sabino was expelled from the party after he decided to remain in office. The leadership of the party had determined the removal of the folder.
In a press interview recently, Sabino said he intends to run for a seat in the Senate next year.
The minister said he will resume his mandate as federal deputy and will pre-campaign for the Senate. “We have been talking to the president for a few days now. And the party has been talking to the president for a few days too, in this dialogue, looking for this space,” he stated.
According to Sabino, his departure was decided on Tuesday (16), in a meeting with Union leaders with the Minister of Institutional Relations, Gleise Hoffmann.
He said he still doesn’t know which party he will seek the Senate seat for. He added, however, that he intends to support the government in whatever is necessary. Sabino also added that he had a very positive last conversation with President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
“This success that tourism is experiencing today is a direct result of President Lula’s guidance, his participation in our ministry here and also that of all ministries.”
The minister said that he had decided to stay in government to complete important projects, including COP30.
“We were experiencing moments of great uncertainty, of much doubt, of many questions. We concluded the COP very successfully.”
