After the annulment of the internal elections of Popular Action (AP)which sealed the departure of that political party from the 2026 general electionthe Political Committee of that group will evaluate the application of sanctions against the members of the Electoral Committee headed by Cinthia Pajuelo.
The information was provided by Congressman Edwin Martínez, who maintained that, in his opinion, the disciplinary measures should also reach other leaders responsible for what happened.
As recalled, last Saturday the National Elections Jury (JNE) annulled the internal elections in Acción Popular. It was the corollary of a series of complaints about irregularities in that process, among them the accreditation of delegates who were not elected by the bases in the elections of last November 30.
In an interview with Canal N, Martínez – who aspired to a presidential candidacy for AP – commented that the members of the Electoral Committee should have even resigned by now and, along those lines, he also questioned the management of the party president Julio Chávez and the general secretary Juan Abad.
He also mentioned Alfredo Barnechea, another presidential candidate who, after the annulment of AP, had unfortunate comments against the members of the JNE Plenary.
“All those who have been within the Popular Action board, there are former congressmen who have held very high positions who have not been loyal to the true ideology of the Popular Action doctrine,” he said.
Along those lines, he added that if he were Julio Chávez he would have already resigned because of the “tremendous damage” he has caused to Acción Popular “with complaints, with fallacies, with going out to the media and turning a tiny problem into a tremendous problem that has led the National Elections Jury to decide the non-participation of Acción Popular; it seems serious to me,” he commented.
