The Puebla Group calls for the withdrawal of sanctions against Russia

The group of left-wing leaders to which, among others, Irene Montero, Adriana Lastra and ZP belong, makes only a lukewarm condemnation of the invasion

The Puebla Group (GP), which brings together leftist and populist leaders from Latin America, has shown in a statement its “deep concern about the recent course of events in Ukraine”. A kind of Solomonic declaration in which he “cordially” asks Russia, USA and the European Union to abandon “the path of military intervention” and also the “unilateral economic sanctions” against Moscow.

As if it were any other conflict, the GP makes a call to “avoid war in Ukraine” and invites the protagonists to “to transfer this dispute over the military geostrategic balance between Europe and Asia institutional multilateral scenarios”. The GP is made up of 53 leaders from 16 countries, among them the minister Irene Montero, the socialist deputy Adriana Lastra and the former head of Spanish government Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero one of the main defenders inside of the three Latin American dictatorships.

The GP uses concepts similar to those exhibited in the last hours in Caracas, where so much Nicholas Maduro as its vice president, Delcy Rodriguez, have withdrawn unrestricted support for Vladimir Putin, “the great leader of Humanity”. “Venezuela rejects the aggravation of the crisis in Ukraine as a result of the breach of the agreements of Minsk by the NATO”, highlighted Chavez’s son, who had previously insisted that “they have concentrated on one brutal war against Russia and against Putin, those actions of disrespect come from imperialism”.

For now, neither Caracas nor managua, who recognized in their day Abkhazia already South Ossetia, have done the same with Donetsk and Luhansk.

Precisely in the Nicaraguan capital, a high-level delegation from Russia, commanded by the Chairman of the State Duma Viacheslav Volodin. The Russian leaders came in turn from Havana, where they were received with revolutionary pomp by the Castro authorities. “Cuba and Russia: two peoples closer to each other who defend peace”, headlined the newspaper on its front page Granma, official bulletin of Communist Party of Cuba (PCC).

“For now, caution prevails in response to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Solidarity rhetoric with Putin but no diplomatic action. Diaz-Canel, Maduro and Ortega they are betting that their speech in support of Putin will have no costs and benefits with Russia. But in USA They are tracking you. The state channel in Venezuela adopts the narrative that the invasion is to denazify Ukraine,” summarized the internationalist Marian of Alba.

Faced with the complicity of his allies, the leader of the continental progressive left, the Chilean Gabriel Boric, was blunt: “Russia has opted for war to resolve conflicts. From Chile we condemn the invasion of Ukraine, the violation of its sovereignty and the illegitimate use of force. Our solidarity will be with the victims and our humble efforts with peace.”

Chavismo, which defines as “cowardly” the left that has broken ranks to separate itself from the three dictatorships and the repeated violation of human rights, took advantage of the situation to disqualify with the same words those who have opposed the Russian invasion from the region.
