The president of the Senate, Laura Itzel Castillo, considered it necessary that on the other side of the border the causes of fentanyl consumption be addressed and young people be supported with initiatives that they should be developing.

After US President Donald Trump classified this drug as a weapon of mass destruction, the Morenista maintained that it is important to continue with coordinated work on security, because it is not only about Mexico, but about both nations.

But this must always be done with respect for the sovereignty and self-determination of nations, he emphasized.

Interviewed at the presentation of the commemorative medal for the 60th anniversary of the Mexican Petroleum Institute, she also referred to the removal of Alex Tonatiuh Márquez as general director of Customs Investigation of the National Customs Agency and considered it important that President Claudia Sheinbaum has reported that he is no longer an official.

“Everyone, finally, will have to face their situation personally,” he stressed, noting that he does not know why the former official’s US visa was withdrawn.

Regarding whether the Senate has received the appointment of former Attorney General Alejandro Gertz Manero as ambassador, the president of the Upper House said she had no information on the matter, as it is an issue that corresponds exclusively to the federal Executive Branch.
