The inhabitants of Campo Caribe, in Boca de Aroa, Falcón state, warn about the serious deterioration of the Yaracuy river and the Núñez channel, which has generated recurrent overflows and flooding in the community. According to neighbors, the lack of maintenance, obstructions and unattended fractures affect homes, farms, rural roads and agricultural and livestock production in the area.
“The agreement between the governorates of Falcón, Yaracuy and Carabobo remained up in the air. Meanwhile, the fractures and overflows continue to affect our homes, our lands and the entire development of the area. It is urgent that this issue be addressed responsibly,” declared Luis Enrique Martínez, resident of the Campo Caribe sector.

The Yaracuy River supplies the main pipes in the sector, such as La Pava, El Paují and Gucharaca, which are currently blocked by sediment and weeds. Neighbors claim that this situation diverts the flow towards populated areas, increasing the risks of flooding and damage to agricultural production.
In previous years, an agreement was discussed between the Falcón governoratesYaracuy and Carabobo to carry out comprehensive maintenance of the river and its channels, including dredging and sediment control. However, the agreement was never formalized or executed, leaving the water system in constant deterioration.
During the rainy season, neighbors report direct impacts:
- Overflows that affect residential and productive areas.
- Land erosion and loss of agricultural areas.
- Deteriorated rural roads, making access and mobility difficult.
- Health risks due to accumulation of stagnant water.
- Loss of productivity in agriculture and livestock, essential activities for the local economy.
Despite multiple complaints to local, regional and national authorities, no inspections or repairs have been carried out. The community insists on the need to urgently evaluate the state of the Yaracuy River and the main pipes, and to resume intergovernmental agreements to guarantee the security and development of Campo Caribe.
