He Paris Saint-Germain won the Intercontinental Cup today after defeating Flamengo on penalties (1-1 and 2-1) in the final played in Al Rayyan (Qatar) and completed the Sextete in this historic 2025 for the club after previously achieving its first Champions League, European Super Cup and the three domestic titles, Ligue 1, Coupe de France and Super Cup.
“I think this year is impossible to repeat for Paris Saint-Germain. It is an unforgettable year,” declared Luis Enrique at the press conference. The Asturian coach only missed the Club World Cup in 2025 after losing the final against Chelsea 3-0.
“We have to keep winning”
“Six trophies? It’s not bad, we have to keep going. That’s our mentality: we have to keep winning, we have to keep making history, that’s our mentality,” added the always demanding Luis Enrique.
A mentality that he has been able to instill in his players. “We have a coach who puts pressure on us, who never settles. (…) Neither do we. We always want to win, win all the trophies possible,” the midfielder highlighted Warren Zaire-Emery after the game.
Of course Luis Enrique praised the goalkeeper’s performance Matvei Safonov, PSG’s hero in the penalty shootout. “It’s the first time I’ve seen a goalkeeper save four penalties”he assured.
Praise to Filipe Luis and Flamengo
Luis Enrique evaluated the final of the Intercontinental Cup like this: “We played a very good game, especially in the first half. Defensively we put pressure on Flamengo all the time and we controlled the first half very well. But after the penalty (1-1), the game was more balanced.”
