The mayor of Caracas, Carmen Meléndez, declared that Venezuelans have the responsibility to defend the national territory, in the face of the escalation of war recently threatened by the US president, Donald Trump, who intends to intimidate the Venezuelan Homeland with threats of a naval blockade.
«All communes have to speak out in the face of these violent threats from those who believe they are the supremacists who own the world. We have that responsibility on our backs to defend our land and here all together, all united. We are ready, ready to defend our Homeland,” said Meléndez.
Again, he warned that “what happens in Venezuela will influence the entire region,” and urged other Latin American nations to «to join this warrior people who are working to guarantee our independence, our sovereignty.
Finally, he issued a call to the international community and all revolutionaries in the world “to join us as free peoples,” in addition to expressing his full support for the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, “who leads with courage and wisdom in the defense of national sovereignty.” “Venezuela will never again be a colony of any empire!” exclaimed the capital’s president.
