In July of this year, Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity (MCCI) revealed that between 2012 and 2017, Márquez Hernández reported in his asset declaration a collection of four luxury watches valued at 7.5 million pesos. At that time, the official argued that the pieces were acquired before holding public positions and correspond to previous work.
“During this period, Márquez Hernández worked as a legislative advisor and as a lawyer in the Legislative Assembly of the then Federal District and later in the Labor Attorney’s Office of Mexico City,” the investigation indicates.
After the dissemination of this information, he was given the nickname “Lord Relojes”. The same civil association revealed that Alex Tonatiuh acquired a penthouse for 7.7 million pesos. The property has three levels, 240 square meters and is located in one of the towers of the Polárea development, at number 243 Lago Zurich Street, Ampliación Granada neighborhood, Miguel Hidalgo mayor’s office.
Although the president of Mexico reported that there is no investigation against the former official and that her government will not be “anyone’s cover,” MCCI data reveal a rapid enrichment of the former official, since he previously lived in an apartment in the Fuentes Brotantes neighborhood, in Tlalpan.
Alex Tonatiuh Márquez Hernández also worked as a legislative advisor and lawyer in the Legislative Assembly of the then Federal District, as well as in the Labor Attorney’s Office of Mexico City.
Furthermore, the United States withdrew his visa at the beginning of December, so his departure from ANAM draws attention to some type of irregularity during his position, although the latter will be reported by the corresponding authorities.
The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, stated that Alex Tonatiuh Márquez Hernández reported at the time about the huachibuque in the Port of Tampico that led to the fiscal huachicol investigation in March 2025, so she ruled out that he was involved in this corruption network.
“There is nothing up to this moment that can indicate to us that this was the case. In fact, I am going to tell you something: this then public official helped provide information about the this ship that was found in Tampico, remember?, where all the investigation that led to personnel from the Secretary of the Navy and that this investigation continues. He warned about pipes that were at that time in the Port of Tampico,” he expressed in La Mañanera del Pueblo.
