Kast on possible US intervention in Venezuela: “It will have our support”

José Antonio Kast presidente de Chile

The elected president of Chile, José Antonio Kast, considered that a possible US intervention in Venezuela would solve “a gigantic problem for all of Latin America, for all of South America, even for countries in Europe.”

The elected president of Chile, José Antonio Kast, announced this Tuesday, December 16, his support for an eventual intervention by the United States in Venezuela to resolve “problems” and “a specific situation generated by a narco-dictator.”

“It is not up to us to solve it, but whoever does will have our support”stated Kast when asked at a press conference in Buenos Aires about a possible intervention by the United States in Venezuela.

«I support any situation that ends with a dictatorship, a narco-dictatorship. “We clearly cannot intervene in that, because we are a small country, but we are victims of the terror that having a dictatorship implies,” added the newly elected president.

Furthermore, he expressed that a possible US intervention in Venezuela would solve “a gigantic problem for all of Latin America, for all of South America, even for European countries.”

On the other hand, he urged “all international organizations and all countries that claim to respect the internal policies of each country to comply with that principle.”

«Venezuela’s internal rules are clear: there was a democratic election and someone stole it, and that someone is Mr. (Nicolás) Maduro. He does not have the democratic legitimacy to serve as pseudo-president of that nation. This requires an international agreement, which is evident. They stole an election. “What do international organizations say?” he added.

Kast also accused Maduro of denying entry to Venezuelan migrants who want to return to the country, assured that the president prefers that they stay abroad and continue sending remittances and anticipated: “The remittances of the irregulars are not going to reach him anymore.”

This statement follows the announcement that he has held talks with other presidents in the region with the intention of creating a “humanitarian corridor” to return irregular migrants to their countries of origin.

For his part, Maduro warned Kast to avoid getting involved with the Venezuelans who live in Chile: “You may be a convicted and confessed Pinochetist, but it doesn’t hurt a Venezuelan to be careful; Venezuelans respect each other. Be careful! Listen to me carefully, you heard, that whoever messes with Venezuela dries up and you can dry up quickly, Mr. Kast,” he said.

During his campaign, the elected president of Chile defended measures such as the construction of walls and fences on the country’s borders, the use of violence against drug trafficking, a million-dollar reduction in public spending and the mass expulsion of irregular migrants who are in the country.
