The decision of National Election Jury (JNE) to leave the party out of the electoral race Popular Action (AP) It has been appealed by the party leadership, which requested a rectification by the electoral authority.
Juan José Abad, general secretary of Popular Action, described the JNE resolution, which annulled the primary elections, as “unconstitutional” and an “attack against democracy.” In statements to RPP, Abad argued that the party was not notified of any prior challenge or request for annulment, which would violate due process.
“The JNE is wrong and I hope that these three members (who voted in favor) rectify their resolution, because it is an attack against democracy. They have decided in an unconstitutional manner,” Abad said.
Edmundo del Águila, former general secretary of the party, condemned the measure and questioned the legitimacy of the electoral body to make such a decision. In dialogue with Exitosa, Del Águila declared that the JNE “is not competent to annul primary elections, its resolution is weak and it cannot fill gaps or correct internal irregularities.”
In statements to Perú21, Del Aguila commented that “the leadership must be renewed because its members are responsible for the crisis. They must be submitted to the Disciplinary Court.”
