The Eastern Region Directorate of ASSE presented management evaluation and goals to be met

In contact with the media, which took place in the Conference Room of the Departmental Hospital, the progress that has been made in the 9 months of management was announced and some goals to be met in the five-year period were also advanced.

The event was attended by Director and Deputy Regional Director of the State Health Services Administration, as well as the Heads of each of the Department’s Executing Units: Melo Hospital, Primary Health Care Network and Río Branco Hospital.

“The idea of today’s event is to present an evaluation of what these months of management have been like in ASSE, fundamentally in the Eastern Region, through the Management teams” expressed the Dr. Marcos Suárez.

“We found an ASSE with some difficulties motivated by an administrative and financial disorder and many budgetary complexities” revealed. “In any case, we have been able to advance, we have been able to meet objectives and that is what we want to show you today from the different teams” he added.

The Director of the Eastern Region assured that in 2025 it was possible to meet both the objectives and priorities that the ASSE Board of Directors had established at the beginning of the administration. “It has been possible to eliminate the demand pending 2023 and 2024, we hope, by December, to have it eliminated or that there will be very little left” he stated.

“The work with medicines so that there is no shortage of stock and no shortages, something that has been achieved in a timely manner at the beginning of the administration, something that has greatly improved here in the department of Cerro Largo” Dr. Suárez highlighted.

He assured that at this time there is no shortage of medicines in any agency of the organization at the national level, much less due to budgetary issues.

He said that much progress has been made in strengthening the First Level of Care (RAP).

He stated that there have been no care gaps, meaning that it has been possible to maintain continuity of care for users. “This with a regional perspective where the different units have complemented each other” he remarked.

THE 2025 INVENTORY WAS FROM 2019

“When we took on this management period back in March or April, ASSE found itself with a debt, at a general level, of $280,000,000” remembered the Dr. Mauricio González.

This amount represents 21% of the organization’s total budget. “This had never happened during changes in management periods” he assured.

“In Cerro Largo it is more difficult because the suppliers are fewer, there are not as many as in the capital” specified the Deputy Director of the Eastern Regional of ASSE. “There were debts with suppliers for more than a year which made it very difficult for them to sell us services in order to continue operating” broad.

“We found an inventory in 2025 that came from 2019” revealed. “That is to say that from 2019 to 2025 apparently nothing happened or there were no additions or departures of resources” express.

From an assistance point of view, González said that the pending demand even exceeded the year 2022.

“The ambulance fleets were in poor condition, the CTI that was opened was done without foreseeing an adjustment in the substitute pattern, which means that every time we have a license or someone has to be summoned, it creates a lot of difficulty for us” he commented.

The Deputy Regional Director of ASSE stated that the demand was eliminated pending 2024, in Cerro Largo it is already at the beginning of 2025.

“We are working to strengthen the First Level of Care. We have derived many resources, financial and human, especially so that the Primary Care Network has more and more independence” he stressed.

“Pharmacies have been strengthened with budget increases, not only so that basic medications are covered 100%, but also so that there are no stock shortages, there is no lack of medication” he explained.

“With the approved budget, we hope to be able to fulfill all the obligations that the Board of Directors leaves us. We are sure that we will achieve it” Dr. Mauricio González, Deputy Director of the Eastern Region of ASSE, closed.
