Mariano González resigns from Let's Save Peru after video of presidential candidate with JNE member

Mariano Gonzalez made official his irrevocable resignation to Let’s save Peru after the dissemination of a video in which a presidential candidate of the party appears meeting with a member of the JNEa situation that – as indicated – was not clarified or investigated by the leadership. The decision also includes his withdrawal from the Senate race with a view to the elections 2026.

The departure was formalized through a notarized letter addressed to the president of the political organization, Guillermo Suárez Flores. In the document, the former Minister of the Interior maintains that his permanence in the party became unsustainable due to the way in which questions that compromised the transparency of the electoral process were handled.

In his statement, González affirms that he informed the leadership of his concern about certain events, without concrete measures being adopted or timely public explanations offered. In his opinion, this lack of response affected the internal credibility of the party and its relationship with citizens.

Mariano González points out that “very serious events” led him to present his resignation

In the notarial letter, Mariano Gonzalez warns of non-compliance with political commitments assumed by the leadership of Let’s save Peruboth in party leadership and in the handling of situations that could affect the image of the organization in the public opinion.

The former minister points out the existence of “extremely serious events” that, in his opinion, should have been evaluated more rigorously due to their impact on citizen confidence and the legitimacy of the electoral process. He adds that the silence in the face of these questions ended up weakening the principles that motivated his incorporation into the party.

González also highlights that the absence of clear and verifiable answers led him to conclude that there were no political or ethical guarantees to continue as a militant or as a candidate in a process supervised by the JNE.

As explained Mariano Gonzalezdespite the seriousness of the material disseminated, the party leadership did not promote an internal investigation or demand public clarifications that would allow to dispel any suspicion of improper interference in the path towards the elections 2026.

For the former minister, the lack of an institutional response to this episode ended up breaking the political and ethical trust that justified his militancy, which is why he chose to step aside and distance himself from future responsibilities linked to Let’s save Peru.
