During his participation in the Sin script programled by Rosa María Palacios, Paul Jaimes, presidential candidate of party Let’s progressdownplayed the two complaints of violence that were filed against him and assured that he was a victim of “defamation.”
In his statements, Jaimes denied the veracity of both accusations, despite the fact that, as specified Palacesthe first complaint was filed in August 2010 by his sister, for alleged physical and verbal aggression, and the second in December 2016 by Hilda Graciel Angulofor threat with a firearm.
“For the second person it is 100% false, so much so that it was filed (…) I filed a complaint against him and I don’t even know how this issue is going (I should know) they don’t notify you, I found out about that in 2023, for many honor is the most important thing, otherwise any lazy person talks any nonsense.”, he stated. However, he acknowledged not knowing the current status of the complaint that he claims to have filed, which left his situation unclear in the judicial authorities.
“In the case of my sister, I have no complaint from her. I have no complaint. 100% false, my sister is part of the political commission, she is one of my best friends. I invite you to quote her because I can tell you a thousand things,” he said, visibly upset during the interview.

The candidate’s statements become more relevant if we consider that one of his main campaign proposals is the establishment of the death penalty in the country, a position that has been widely questioned by human rights organizations. The existence of complaints of violence against him highlights a political and ethical contradiction around his ‘iron fist’ discourse.
“A few years ago (…) I was also assaulted like thousands or millions in Peru, at gunpoint, I had to beg for the life of my youngest daughter. You go, you file a complaint, you think someone is detained, but many cases go unpunished. But let’s see, kneel down and beg so that your daughter is not hurt and they will understand me (…) What is the point of protecting the human rights of so many criminals? I am going to be the president who applies the death penalty,” he alleged by resorting to personal experience to justify your proposal
So far, on the party’s website Let’s progress No institutional statement has been issued specifying the legal situation of its candidate with respect to both accusations.
