With an irreversible trend and with more than 90% of the tables scrutinized, the business associations issued the first reactions after the triumph of José Antonio Kast was announced.
The president of the Confederation of Production and Commerce (CPC), Susana Jiménez, expressed her support for the future administration.
Furthermore, the CPC leader maintained that “to grow again and generate opportunities for everyone, the bureaucratic obstacles that unnecessarily hinder investment must be reduced, the tax burden must be lowered to be more competitive, and labor costs must be reduced to recover formal, quality employment.”
The president of the Chilean Institute of Rational Business Administration (ICARE), Holger Paulmann, stated that “our country must regain security, reduce victimization rates, invigorate growth and help families that need greater support from the State. The challenge of the next government is enormous and we must all use our abilities and talents to collaborate in lifting up Chile.”
In turn, the president of the National Multigremial, Juan Pablo Swett, also referred to the availability of working together with the new administration. “We hope that the triumph of José Antonio Kast as the new President of the Republic will allow SMEs and entrepreneurs to once again be put at the center of the country’s economic and social agenda,” he said.
The president of Sonami, Jorge Riesco, said “we are very calm because the president-elect received and listened to our proposals to boost mining, some of them applicable in the first 100 days of government, since they do not require their passage through Congress.” From the National Chamber of Commerce (CNC), José Pakomio, stressed the importance of SMEs and their investment. “Without security there is no possible growth,” he said. In addition, the representative emphasized that he implement a National Security Plan for Economic Activity, with an operational focus on commercial and tourist areas, which allows for the recovery of territorial control, the effective fight against illicit trade and the protection of formal economic activity.
Similarly, the president of the Santiago Chamber of Commerce (CCS), María Teresa Vial, delivered her congratulations to Kast and called for addressing the strengthening of the sector through dialogue, broad agreements and a long-term view to ensure governability and stability. From the Association of Banks they reiterated the commitment – as a union – to “continue collaborating proactively, with the purpose of jointly facing the challenges that Chile faces, especially in economic, social and security matters, recognizing that investment and certainty are enabling conditions for the development of the country.”
