Hermosillo, Sonora, with the aim of providing legal certainty and strengthening the productivity of the countryside in the entity, Governor Alfonso Durazo Montaño, and Efraín Morales López, general director of the National Water Commission (Conagua), delivered water concession titles for agricultural use to users in the state of Sonora. The state president pointed out that this procedure seeks to contribute to eradicating irregular practices and guarantee that water is used under criteria of legality, equity and transparency; There he stated that the delivery of water concession titles will benefit agricultural producers from various regions of the entity, including the irrigation districts 051 Costa de Hermosillo, 037 Altar-Pitiquito-Caborca, 038 Río Mayo, 041 Río Yaqui and 084 de Guaymas.
During the visit to Sonora, the head of Conagua highlighted that one of the main benefits of regularizing concessions is that small agricultural producers with wells or water titles can access federal support, such as preferential electricity rates for agricultural irrigation, as well as other rural development programs. Within the framework of this meeting with Sonoran producers, the new General Water Law and the reforms to the National Water Law were addressed, in which effects on the agricultural sector were ruled out; On the contrary, the authorities indicated that these modifications organize and make the concession system transparent, guarantee the human right to water and provide certainty to producers to ensure human consumption, food production and the development of the country.
