The general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, rejected the ratification of the European Union sanctions against Venezuela. He described the measures as “coercive and unilateral” and assured that this bloc acts without autonomy and under the guidelines of the United States.
The general secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), Diosdado Cabello, assured that the departure from the country of the opposition leader, María Corina Machado, who had been in hiding for 15 months, does not affect the ruling party “at all” and that this is “their problem.”
Cabello was asked about the possible restrictions that exist for Machado to return to Venezuela, after traveling to Oslo, Norway, to receive the Nobel Peace Prize and he avoided responding directly; without confirming or denying whether there are investigations, alerts or judicial measures against the opponent.
The Minister of the Interior, Justice and Peace also denied that the representative of Vente Venezuela had gone abroad in the middle of a “special operation” monitored by the United States. He said that the opposition always seeks to give things bombastic names “to give them a mythical character”: “Don’t start believing those things,” he insisted to the journalist.
Attorney General Tarek William Saab stated on Thursday, November 20, that María Corina Machado would be considered a “fugitive” from Venezuelan justice if she leaves the country.
In statements to AFPthe official referred to the opposition leader, who was awarded the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize and whose award ceremony took place on December 10, in Oslo, Norway.
“Being outside of Venezuela and having numerous criminal investigations, she is considered a fugitive,” said prosecutor Tarek William Saab about Machado, accused, he said, of “acts of conspiracy, instigation of hatred, terrorism.”
Saab said that Machado is also being investigated for her “call to invade Venezuela” by supporting the US military deployment in the Caribbean.
On the other hand, Diosdado Cabello rejected this Monday, December 15, during the party’s press conference, the ratification of the European Union sanctions against Venezuela. He described the measures as “coercive and unilateral” and assured that this bloc acts without autonomy and under the guidelines of the United States.
«The European Union is worn out, it has no life of its own, it jumps if its imperial master makes it jump. Perhaps an institution so despised that Europeans themselves, if you ask them if they want to leave, many say they want to leave,” he emphasized.
“The impact of the sanctions is not against a political sector, but against the entire country,” he stated, while linking these actions with what he described as direct attacks on the Venezuelan economy, including the recent oil tanker incident, which the ruling party describes as an act of “piracy.”
*Journalism in Venezuela is carried out in a hostile environment for the press with dozens of legal instruments in place to punish the word, especially the laws “against hate”, “against fascism” and “against the blockade.” This content was written taking into consideration the threats and limits that, consequently, have been imposed on the dissemination of information from within the country.
