The residents of the Achoma district, in the province of Caylloma, are consuming contaminated water that does not meet quality standards for human use, reveals a report from the Comptroller’s Office.
They detected Turbidity levels up to 16.3 NTU in reservoirs and homeswhen the maximum allowable limit is 5 NTU, which shows the presence of suspended solids in the water, which reduce the effectiveness of chlorine and allow the possible survival of pathogenic microorganisms.
PROBLEM
Report No. 017-2025-CG/0357-SVC warns that one of the main causes is the absence of a sand trap in the Drinking Water Treatment Plant (PTAP)this facilitates the entry of sand and particles into the system, increasing turbidity and raising operation and maintenance costs.
Added to this is a poor chlorination processbecause one of the two chlorination booths is inoperative. The measurements showed irregular chlorine levels, even below the minimum requiredas in the main reservoir, where 0.26 mg/L was recorded, when the standard establishes a minimum of 0.5 mg/L.
The situation also reaches the wastewater system. At the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP), the Comptroller’s Office detected humidity on the walls of the Imhoff tank, which could cause the infrastructure to deteriorate soon.
