Carenas, an independent Cuban brand specialized in making bags with the leather printing technique, presented its most recent collection called “Island” at Galleria Continua.
“The cultural wealth, vibrant landscapes and diversity of the Caribbean” are the fundamental inspiration of the pieces presented in the art gallery converted into a catwalk for the occasion.
“Island” had its world debut in June during the International Fashion Concert in Venice, Italy, the second time that Cuban creators participated in this event.
Raisa Cortina and Manuel Olivera, creators of Carenas, returned to Havana mosaics for this collection, but this time based on four designs that “had a very strong load on the colors of the tropics and very floral, very vegetative shapes,” as they explained to OnCuba in a recent interview.
The creation of more than 3 thousand flowers made entirely by hand is one of the great attractions and main creative challenges of this Carenas collection.
The pieces were exhibited this Friday for the first time in the country and make up the “non-utilitarian” wardrobe that makes “Island” a complete artistic experience, beyond the bags that constitute the main and marketable works.

For the Havana catwalk, the brand included the “Island night” selection that the brand launched this December and in connection with its seventh anniversary.
In them Carenas integrates rhinestones into his designs and includes two prints that were not available in the selection presented in Venice.
