Alfredo Barnechea spoke after the National Election Jury (JNE) will declare the internal elections of the Popular Action party null and void who elected him as a presidential candidate. The acciopopulist announced that he will appeal the decision and denounce the members of the JNE, because the measure also leaves the lampa out of the race for the 2026 Elections
“I am surprised and outraged. It is very strange that on a Saturday the JNE publish a decision of this nature. This is a completely illegal decision against a historic party of Peru, which has governed on three occasions (…) This is an illegal decision that we are going to appeal. We are going to criminally denounce all members of the National Election Jury,” Barnechea said on Canal N.
The leader warned that he will face the JNE in all instances by considering the exclusion of a “historic party” illegal.
“I want to tell the members of the Jury that they do not know who they are facing (…) This may sound like a threat, but the real threat is what these gentlemen have done. They have made an illegal decision (…) We are going to present all the complaints, all the appeals and we are going to fight until the end,” he said.

Barnechea also said that the ONPE declared that the party’s internal election was transparent, so the JNE should not intervene in electoral processes.
“The National Election Jury does not have the authority to intervene in the processes. They are not responsible for seeing that, but rather the ONPE, which has already declared the elections clean and transparent. In addition, there is due process. They cannot condemn you without you having the opportunity to defend yourself. We were not notified,” argued the excluded presidential candidate.
JNE leaves Acción Popular out of the race
He Plenary Session of the National Election Jury (JNE) declared void the internal elections of the Popular Action party that defined Alfredo Barnechea as presidential candidate for the Elections 2026. The former head of the ONPE, Fernando Tuestasaid that the resolutions of the JNE are unappealable, so Acción Popular is out of the race. “The conflict between the two factions ended up sinking Fernando Belaunde Terry’s party,” he noted.
