Mexico, the US and Canada strengthen environmental cooperation in the T-MEC

Authorities from Mexico, the United States and Canada held the fourth meeting of the T-MEC Environment Committee, in order to strengthen regional cooperation on the matter.

The three delegations presented progress in the application of their environmental laws, initiatives to improve the protection of ecosystems, the sustainable management of forests and protected natural areas, as well as actions to combat environmental crimes and reduce marine litter.

The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources reported that the three partners highlighted the importance of cooperation and technical coordination to face common challenges and enhance the benefits of the T-MEC in environmental matters.

The Commission for Environmental Cooperation presented relevant information about its projects, strategic priorities and files derived from the citizen petition mechanism on the application of environmental legislation. The exchange, he added, made it possible to identify key areas to promote joint activities and improve the operation of Chapter 24.

Semarnat stressed in a statement that Mexico reiterated its commitment to continue collaborating with the United States and Canada to build a solid regional environmental agenda, based on sustainable development, shared prosperity and transparency.
