The Cuban teams of weightlifting They will have their full rosters in the tournament of that sport during the XXVI Central American and Caribbean Games of Santo Domingo 2026, thanks to the performance signed in the qualifying competition that was also hosted until this Friday in the Dominican capital.
In that event, the island’s exponents accumulated 14 medals, with highlights for the world runner-up Mariafelix Sarría and Otto Oñate, owners of the five titles won, according to the note published by the sports portal Hit.

On the closing day Mariafelix added two titles in the +86 kilogram division, the first by lifting 155 in the clean and jerk, after finishing third in the snatch with 114. The sum of 269 kilos between the two movements earned her her second golden metal.
Her performance was the culmination of the Cuban performance in the event, which on the same date saw the presentation of Lorena Montoya in the call for 86 kilograms, without her approaching the vanguard positions.
The Guantanamera woman placed sixth in the snatch (95 kg) and total (220 kg), and managed to improve one position in the clean and jerk (125 kg).
In this way, the Cuban harvest closed with five titles, one silver medal and eight bronze medals.

The three remaining titles went to Oñate in the 60 kilogram division and the subtitle went to Raibet Machado in the same weight.
For their part, Ludia Montero (48 kg), Edisnel Corrales (79 kg) and Yorelvis Machado (94 kg) signed the remaining bronze medals, the publication states.
Camilo Reinaldo Ramírez, national sports commissioner, confirmed to the media that, although the regulations of the Central Caribbean event establish the presence of six weightlifters from each country by gender, the organizers are evaluating the possibility of increasing a place in the call.
“In any of the chosen formats, Cuba will be with a full team,” confirmed the manager.
