MADRID, Spain.- A traffic accident that occurred this Thursday on the Malecón in Havana left several people injured, including a girl, according to reports spread by witnesses on social networks. So far, there is no official information or a medical report issued by the authorities on the condition of the injured.
The accident took place in the vicinity of the United States Embassy, an area of the capital with high traffic flow. The first images and testimonies were shared on Facebook by content creator Alexander Ríos Cruz.
According to the photographs released, the accident would have involved a taxi van, which hit a small yellow car, identified as a Toyota, from the rear.
Witnesses assured that emergency services quickly arrived at the scene to provide medical care and transfer the injured to hospital centers. However, as of press time, it has not been officially confirmed how many people were injured or the severity of their injuries.
Images shared on social networks show the presence of health personnel and a fire truck in the area, while relief work was carried out.
After the accident spread, several Internet users reported recurring problems on that stretch of Havana’s Malecón, where excessive speed, dangerous maneuvers and violations of traffic rules are common. The deterioration of the road and the lack of effective control were also identified as common risk factors.

In the capital, another traffic accident was also reported this Thursday morning at the intersection of Vento and Camagüey. Witnesses indicated that a Lada car hit another vehicle from behind, causing a severe crash. In this case, no injuries were reported and the incident left only material damage.
In addition, On Wednesday a more serious accident occurred in the early morning, on the highway that connects Puerto Padre with the city of Las Tunas, where the driver of a bus lost his life after the accident.
These events occur in a context marked by the repetition of traffic accidents in Cuba, a problem that continues to have a high impact on mortality in the country. Official data place road accidents among the main causes of death.
Between January and August of the current year, 502 deaths were recorded, a figure that represents the majority of victims recorded in 2024, a year that closed with 634 deaths and more than 6,600 people injured, which represented a notable increase compared to previous periods. Among the most notable factors are the deterioration of the road network, the aging of the vehicle fleet—with vehicles that have been in circulation for decades—and human behavior associated with non-compliance with traffic regulations and reckless driving.
