The government of Brazil reported that its president, Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, spoke on November 21, via telephone, with Nicolás Maduro about the military deployment that the United States maintains in the Caribbean and the situation in South America.

The information about the call was released by the Brazilian authorities and they stated that it is the first communication between the two after the presidential elections on July 28 of last year.

It must be remembered that Lula questioned the results presented by the National Electoral Council (CNE) and urged the publication of the disaggregated results.

After the extensive US military deployment in the Caribbean and the attack on the alleged drug boats, Lula offered to mediate in the conflict between the US and Venezuela, as he considers that the threat in the Caribbean is not only against Caracas, but against the entire region.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mauro Viera, stated that Lula “offered to be a contact, an interlocutor, as he has been in the past with Venezuela, to seek acceptable solutions.”

The United States has not made any comments related to this proposal.

Until the moment of publication of this note, Venezuela has not confirmed the call or said anything about it.
