Carlos Hugo Egoavil Shupingahua (31) was admitted to the Huamancaca Chico prison after the Third Preparatory Investigation Court of Huancayo ordered nine months of preventive detention against him. The non-commissioned officer is being investigated for alleged qualified homicide after the death of his colleague, Luis Abimael Beltrán Díaz, inside the Surcubamba police station, in Huancavelica.

During the hearing, the Surcubamba Prosecutor’s Office maintained that Egoavil shot with intent to kill, after an argument that occurred in the prevention area, on the eve of Police Day. The Public Ministry requested 30 years in prison as a sentence.

Egoavil acknowledged having fired the shot, but claimed self-defense. His defense stated that the victim was under the influence of alcohol and had threatened him with the weapon assigned to the investigated person.
