Río Branco Technical School students access internships

With the presence of representatives from San Carlos Madeirao, Barraca Don Manuel and the Municipality, authorities of Technical Professional Education launched this job proposal that is already benefiting students from the Technical School of Río Branco.

“We are really happy to be launching the first internship at UTU. We want to thank the companies in the area that trusted us so that our students can have their first work experience” highlighted Professor Alejandra Vergara.

“We already have agreements with two companies in the area, Barraca Don Manuel where we already have a student who is completing his internship, and soon we will have two more students at Barraca Don Manuel as well” held.

Present at this press conference were the UTU Extension Unit, representatives of companies and authorities of the Municipality of Río Branco headed by Mayor López himself.

“We are part of the Extension Unit, an area of UTU that works in the different institutions in the department. On this occasion we are starting the internships in Río Branco” said Cecilia Vergara.

“We have had a very good, very positive experience of this type of experience in Melo, but this year we are dedicated to deepening and establishing links with the local business community, here in Río Branco” highlighted the member of the Extension Unit.

“There are two ways to be an aspiring entrepreneur who takes on interns.” said. “One is by being partners of the Cerro Largo Commercial and Industrial Center. There, protected by a large umbrella that this institution has, they can approach if they are interested in having an intern. On the other hand, through specific agreements that are made with companies, such as was the case in Madeirao with the General Directorate of UTU directly.” he explained.

Cecilia Vergara reported that internships are pedagogical experiences where students have support. It begins for a period of 3 months ending in 1 year, extendable if the student and the employer are satisfied with the task carried out.

“The purpose is for the student to be able to put into practice everything they have learned and take from their own practice an experience that is fundamental for the world of work” express.

THE MUNICIPALITY WILL JOIN FROM 2026

“We today as Mayor, with Belén (Azambuya) in charge of Citizen View, an area that is in the Municipality that taught me a lot in the last period because it helps society in all areas. It was a concern and it was a promise that I made before being Mayor that we are obviously going to keep, trying to integrate students into their first source of employment, something complex” stated Federico López.

“When young people go to ask for a job, the first thing they ask for is experience, something contradictory. We are very concerned about that reality” he pointed out.

“It is an initiative that we want to put into practice starting in 2026” announced the Mayor of Rio Branco. “As a Municipality we have the responsibility of having our doors open to include all students. We know that there are very important courses and training” stood out.

Belén Azambuya reaffirmed that the Municipality’s idea is to start next year with this internship program. “In principle it would be 2 semesters, without prejudice to the fact that if the students later excel in their work they could stay in that position” he commented.
